Tag: Reading Habits

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I try to be a good girl and read on my couch because it usually is the best physical place for me with lots of light (reading in bad lighting gives me migraines) and I’m sitting up which means my neck isn’t bent at an angle (reading with an odd angle neck gives me migraines) and I’m not in bed – apparently people use other parts of their house.

But if I’m being honest I usually wind up reading in bed next to my one watt lamp with three pillows behind my head making me uncomfortable in the long run but happy in the short term!

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
For most of last year I read with scraps of paper or coupons from Bath and Bodyworks but a friend of mine got me a bookmark for Christmas this past year so now I use that.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I typically read during lunch and dinner breaks at work, but since I still have to answer phones and doors while I’m on break, I usually end up having to put a book down mid sentence. But when I’m reading just before bedtime I do stop at the end of a chapter.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
Nope! I can’t focus on other things so I don’t bother eating while I read. I also don’t drink anything while I read but if my throat gets dry I might have a sip or two of something.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
As mentioned above, I can’t multitask to save my life! So no again!

6. One book at a time or several at once?
One book at a time, always. I remember when I was younger (like in middle school) I would have five or six books on the go, but I’ve found that in my crippling old age (kidding!) my memory has started to suck, so I stick to one book at a time so I can remember what I’ve read the night before.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere! I always keep my book in my purse (which is ridiculously oversized because I like to keep my entire life in it) and I’ll get a couple of pages in at the doctors office or the bank. Anywhere I have to wait.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
Okay. I do this thing where I whisper the words out loud while reading, or just move my lips while I read. So kind of in the middle?

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
Nope nope nope. My sister and mother enjoy reading the last chapter before they start the book and that makes my eye twitch! But to each their own?

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Wow this tag is really painting a strong portrait of me. I absolutely cannot stand when a book spine is cracked or there’s a little blemish on the book, or somethings slightly torn. Like I’ll drive to six different bookstores to find that one book I was looking for if the other five don’t have it in perfect condition. Is that crazy? I feel like it probably isn’t. I’m sure that a lot of book lovers are the same. I won’t lend out my books or even let anyone hold one to read the back or anything. But! That being said, there’s something poetic about a book that’s clearly been loved and worn.

11. Do you write in your books?
I don’t often write in them. That being said, sometimes if something was so amazingly written or evoked a very strong feeling in me I will highlight it so I can come back to it the next time I want to feel something strongly and beautifully.

And there you have it! I feel like this was a really great tag that exposed a lot about a reader! If you do it or have done it please share the link with me, I’d love to find out more from all of you!

Also I got this tag from Dreamland Book Blog and she tagged the Youtube channel she found it on, if you’re interested in checking out that blog or channel.
